ABOUT ONTARIO GRAND RIVER CHAPTER
The purpose of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) is to:

-
foster, promote, and improve the versatile hunting dog breeds in North America;
-
to conserve game by using well trained reliable hunting dogs before and after the shot; and
-
to aid in the prevention of cruelty to animals by discouraging non selective and uncontrolled breeding, which produces unwanted and uncared for dogs.
Ontario Grand River (OGR) is a sanctioned, non-profit chapter of NAVHDA serving Southwestern Ontario; from Lake Huron to Lake Ontario, and from Georgian Bay to Lake Erie.

Ontario Grand River (OGR) is dedicated to promoting and improving the versatile hunting dog breeds through training, testing, and education. Our chapter is committed to fostering a community of passionate dog enthusiasts who share a love for versatile hunting dogs.
As a chapter, we aim to provide a welcoming environment for versatile hunting dog owners, offering training programs, testing events, and educational resources to help our members develop and enjoy a strong bond with their dogs.
OGR Chapter History
The Ontario Grand River Chapter was sanctioned on January 18, 1985. However, the history of the chapter goes beyond that time. NAVHDA was founded in 1969 with significant input from members in Ontario including Bodo Winterhelt and Dr. Ed Bailey, authors of The Training and Care of the Versatile Hunting Dog - "the green book”.
The Ontario Chapter of NAVHDA became one of the charter chapters. The Ontario Chapter flourished and in late 1984 it was decided to divide to form two chapters within Ontario to allow for the additional development of the versatile dog. The Ontario Chapter dissolved and the Ontario Grand River and the Toronto Chapters were formed. Today, the Ontario Grand River Chapter serves Southwestern Ontario; from Lake Huron to Lake Ontario, from Georgian Bay to Lake Erie.
